Cottages along the Ottawa River lose their lawns as localized flooding continues to cause problems into May (Jessica Bilson photo)
Our local branch of the Ministry of Natural Resources says we’re not out of the woods yet when it comes to flooding.
The ministry’s ongoing flood warning for areas along the Ottawa River has been extended once again, this time up to the end of this Friday, May 16th, as recent rainfall and warmer temperatures continue to melt snowpack along the northern portion of the Ottawa River watershed, leading to rising water levels through Renfrew County and into Ottawa.
Minor flooding has already been reported in some low-lying areas over the past few weeks, and while water levels are not expected to exceed major flooding thresholds, the ministry reminds you that conditions can change rapidly.
Residents in flood-prone areas are being advised to secure vulnerable property, keep a close watch as conditions develop, and be cautious while they, their kids, and their pets are near affected bodies of water.
