The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested one person in connection with widespread graffiti in the Arnprior and McNab-Braeside area.
That graffiti, historical hate-motivated symbols, was reported in multiple locations on May 7 and 8.
“On Thursday, May 8, officers with Renfrew OPP and the Renfrew Crime Unit arrested a 16-year-old male,” reads an OPP press release. “The individual has been charged with three counts of mischief – destroys or damages property.”
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 5.
Officials in both communities were joined by numerous community members in denouncing the acts.
The investigation by the Renfrew OPP Crime Unit, in conjunction with the OPP Hate Crime and Extremism Unit, is continuing.
