It’s a tragic end to a local missing person case.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment is currently investigating the discovery of human remains in the Township of Laurentian Valley.
On April 26, shortly before 3:30 p.m., police were notified when human remains were discovered in the area of Paul Martin Drive by a local resident.
“The remains have been identified as Diego Sarria of Ottawa. He was reported missing in January 2023 and was 54 at the time of his disappearance,” reads an OPP press release. “A postmortem examination has not determined the exact cause of death and further forensic testing is being conducted.”
Foul play is not suspected, and investigators believe there is no threat to public safety.
Sarria was last seen in the Kanata area on the afternoon of Jan. 17, 2023, and his car was discovered in Pembroke on Jan. 30, 2023.
The UOV OPP Crime Unit is leading the investigation, with support from the Forensic Identification Services unit, Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit, in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
