Lace up your runners and get ready to go, as a major effort to help local palliative care will gather the community outside Hospice Renfrew this weekend.
The facility’s Executive Director, Marjorie Joly, reminds us that their signature fundraiser is right around the corner.
Runners, walkers, and rollers will take off through town starting from the hospice’s Albert Street office Sunday afternoon as part of what Joly calls a wonderful opportunity to bring together hundreds of like-minded people who appreciate why the facility was established— to provide comfort, care, and compassion to those who are nearing their end-of-life journey.
So far, as many as 28 teams of runners have put their names forward to raise pledges for the cause, and Joly is hopeful they can beat last year’s record of 33 teams before registration ends as the hike gets underway at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon.
Joly adds that they’ll have displays and activities for the kids and Bacon on a Bun thanks to the Cobden Civitan Club starting at 2:30 p.m.
Because it is not 100 percent funded by the Ministry of Health, Joly explains that Hospice Renfrew relies on fundraising events like the Hike, as well as donations from a wide range of community partners and individuals.
