The Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fraud case involving the use of fake credit cards to purchase expensive generators in the Barry’s Bay area.
The scam took place earlier this month and involved generators worth thousands of dollars each. The fraud was only discovered after the items had been picked up, making recovery more difficult.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police are looking to speak with a person of interest. Anyone who recognizes the individual or has information is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122, referring to incident number 250465815.
Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The OPP is reminding businesses and residents to stay alert for suspicious transactions, especially involving large purchases and unfamiliar customers.
