The Greater Madawaska Fire Department recently responded to the first grass fire of the year, prompting a warning for the public.
The fire apparently started from a discarded cigarette butt.
“Friendly reminder: Cigarette butts belong in ashtrays, not on the ground. Let’s all do our part to keep our community (and firefighters) safe this season,” reads a social media post.
Provincial Fire Season began April 1 and runs until Oct. 31.
