
One person has died and one is still unaccounted for following a structure fire on Morrison Road in Laurentian Valley Township Thursday night.
The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reports that emergency crews were called to the scene just outside of Pembroke on April 3, shortly after 11 p.m.
“Several individuals were safely evacuated from the structure. One person has been confirmed deceased and there is still one person unaccounted for,” reads an OPP press release. “The identity of the deceased person has not been confirmed.”
Police and fire officials remain on scene this morning (Friday).
The investigation is still ongoing under the direction of the UOV Crime Unit, with assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS).
“OPP is asking people to avoid the area if possible,” reads the release.

This incident comes just a week after a tragic fire in Pembroke that killed one person and injured several others.
