Renfrew Collegiate Institute’s Raiders won’t be on the court, but the school will be a pivotal part of deciding the best in Eastern Ontario.
Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association Junior “A” Boys Basketball convener Adam Noack says RCI’s students will play a big role in supporting Thursday’s annual tournament, part of a continuing effort to create a “court sport” culture at the school.
Even though the Raiders were unable to qualify, Noack says the Renfrew faithful will have the odds-on favourite to cheer for when games get underway in the St. Joseph’s Jaguars.
However, that does not necessarily mean the day will be light work for the Jaguars, as five of the best programs the Ottawa Valley has to offer will have their sights set on upsetting the #1 seed in their hometown.
Noack adds that every team in the running will leave everything on the court to be crowned the best in the region until play starts up again in the fall.
Admission for guests is free as games get underway inside the RCI gymnasium at 9:00 a.m.
Fans who can’t make it to the school can also watch online. The full schedule can be found on the EOSSAA website.
