International Snowmobile Safety Week starts tomorrow, and runs through to January 19th, whether or not proper conditions for the sport exist.
Many of us enjoy Quebec’s network of trails, and the Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec believes its a good time for a rule refresher course.
In Quebec a driver’s license (mandatory since September 10, 2021) is required to ride on trails, public land or private land owned by a municipality.
For persons between the ages of 16 and 17 a certificate of aptitude and knowledge is also required.
Safety tips while on the trails include, never ride alone, plan your journey ahead of time, plot it on an interactive map, or via Imotoneige, so that you can always advise those around you.
Respect the signage- it’s there for your safety. Stay on marked trails, and keep to the right at all times.
If it is necessary to stop, make sure you remain visible to other riders.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is prohibited. For Further information, visit
