Looking at the year ahead, Renfrew Mayor Tom Sidney hopes to see more “positive change” and growth within the town.
Admittedly, budget concerns are at the top of the list, with the cost of the over-budget Ma-te-Way expansion and a number of major road projects contributing to a need to tighten the town’s proverbial purse strings.
Sidney said council is already beginning to look at the budget and a number of things will be under review, noting there is a difference between needs and wants and that’s really going to be stressed this year.
He said council is cognizant of the effect on taxpayers and will be cautious and diligent.
And while the controversy surrounding the Ma-te-Way expansion hasn’t quite faded, residents and visitors are already enjoying the beautiful, state-of-the-art facility that the mayor says will create future opportunities.
Participation in town programs is booming and all signs point to that continuing, he said.
Council’s first meeting of 2025 is next Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 5:30.
