Getting your paperwork in order will keep your wallet from going up in smoke the next time you light a bonfire.
Renfrew’s Fire Department says residents can pick up their burn permits for 2025 through their online portal.
While you don’t need a permit to use a barbeque or a CSA-approved propane fireplace, the town’s by-laws require them for other open-air fires, like commercial, non-combustible fire containers and fire pits. Not complying with the by-laws could result in multiple potential fines of up to $200 each.
Keep in mind that there may be fire bans during dry stretches of the year, and always follow the town’s advice on when and where to burn.
