First-year students in the Bachelor of Event, Sport, and Entertainment Management (Honours) program at Algonquin College raised an impressive $6,831.35 for the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre (DSYTC) ahead of Giving Tuesday.
The students, part of Canada’s only Event Management-focused business degree program, organized and hosted seven exciting events on the college’s Ottawa campus on November 28. These events not only engaged the campus community but also raised funds and awareness for DSYTC. Thanks to Adobe’s generous matching contribution, the total raised amount reached $19,602.85.
“The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre is honoured to be the ongoing charity partner of Algonquin College’s Event Management programs,” said Cindy Manor, vice president of philanthropy at DSYTC. “We are constantly amazed by the students’ hard work and commitment to our centre and its mission of supporting youth and their families.”
Sylvia Densmore, the coordinator and professor of the Bachelor of Event, Sport, and Entertainment Management program, praised the students for their dedication to the cause. “The events on November 28 showcased not only their hard work and creativity but also their genuine passion for helping others,” she said.
Adobe also expressed pride in supporting the students’ efforts. “We believe in fostering creativity and innovation, and these students have demonstrated both in their event planning,” said Jennifer Kealey, executive assistant at Adobe.
The Bachelor of Event, Sport, and Entertainment Management (Honours) degree, launched in September 2023, combines academic learning with hands-on experience. This prepares students for successful careers across various sectors, including public, private, and non-profit organizations, allowing them to make a lasting impact in their communities.
