The Renfrew Wolves’ new on-ice leader got his first chance to take charge over the weekend.
The Junior A Hockey club have chosen Renfrew-native Tal Stevenson to be team captain for the rest of the season as the Wolves look to change course after a disappointing start to the season.
Stevenson has been a key contributor to what success the Wolves have had so far. The 19-year-old has put together 12 goals and 14 assists in 24 games while showing a tireless effort, positive attitude, and commitment to the community that the franchise believes makes him the right fit to inspire a turnaround.
“It’s a huge honour to be named captain of the Wolves,” said Stevenson. “I grew up in the area, and being able to lad the wolves means everything to me. We know where we are in the standings, but this team has heart, and we’re ready to fight to turn things around for our fans and our community.”
Head Coach Jason Gould expressed confidence in Stevenson’s ability: “Tal’s work ethic and determination are unmatched. He’s the type of player who never gives up, and I believe his leadership will set the tone for the rest of the season.”
General Manager Jerret DeFazio added: “Tal embodies the grit and resilience we need right now. His dedication to the game, his teammates, and the Renfrew community is exactly what we need to change direction. We’re excited to see him lead this team with the passion and heart he brings every day.”
Meanwhile, the Wolves say they are committed focusing on creating a new chapter and fighting for every win with Stevenson at the helm.
