Local motorists can expect to be held to a high standard as we get closer to Christmastime.
The OPP’s East Region Headquarters, which oversees their detachments across Renfrew County, among others, says their Festive RIDE initiative is heading into its third week, having already stopped nearly 1,000 vehicles to check for impaired driving.
Since starting on November 21st, the campaign has led to 45 charges being laid and 14 warnings.
“We know people are getting into the holiday spirit, but impaired driving can instantly change a celebration to a tragedy. It’s a simple message: if you drink or consume drugs, don’t get behind the wheel.” -Chief Superintendent Lisa Wilhelm, OPP East Region Commander.
The OPP reminds you that RIDE program checkpoints can happen anywhere, anytime—day or night.
If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 9-1-1. You could be saving lives.
