Renfrew’s strong history of support for Remembrance Day continued on Monday.
Renfrew Legion spokesperson Debbie McDermid says that it was encouraging to see residents pack around the Low Square Cenotaph to reflect on the lives of local soldiers lost to wars that some are too young to even recall.
An estimated 100+ residents, including members of Town Council, local businesses and organizations, and other prominent community figures, gathered outside Town Hall on Monday, November 11th.
McDermid points out that she was particularly impressed with how many private citizens and family members of veterans waited patiently for their turn to lay wreaths at the base of the cenotaph before the ceremony wrapped up.
It was also a reassuring sign that the Legion’s work to promote the interests of veterans in our community and to remember the fallen has not been in vain.
The Legion is always looking for volunteers, and McDermid says anyone who has been inspired to help at Monday’s service can drop in to the branch office on Raglan Street to learn more.
