McNab-Braeside Township Council has had two Special Meetings on a McNab Central Ball fields application- the most recent concluding just before 10AM this morning, with a looming application deadline of tomorrow in Toronto.
A Special Meeting Wednesday the 23rd was inconclusive, as the three representatives who attended still felt their required information package was incomplete.
Wednesday’s event only served as a platform to schedule today’s Special Meeting- with a more productive result.
In attendance were Deputy Mayor Lori Hoddinott, and Councillors Brum, Campbell and Rosien, and the decision was made to authorize the grant application, which would add new lights to three existing diamonds and illuminate a fourth.
While conceivable that Queen’s Park could pay up to 70 percent of the cost, there are no many unknowns- but Councillor Kevin Rosien puts in into perspective.
The quarter million dollars Rosien alludes to is for the Township’s share of the bill for the renos, which would include LED lighting and metal standards for four ball diamonds.
Discussion at the table saw representative Brum suggest the Reserve commitment could well go higher- but it is, in effect, borrowing from one’s own back pocket.
Deputy Mayor Lori Hoddinott says, with all the variables, it is still the Township taxpayer who prints the money to pay the bill.
Despite her preference that the matter have been handled at the October 23rd Special Meeting, Recreation Director Andrea Lamontagne is still faced with tomorrow’s looming deadline.
