Former Renfrew police chief James (Jim) McBain made significant contributions to the town and his legacy will remain a part of the town’s history, says Mayor Tom Sidney
Saturday, the town issued a statement regarding the sudden death of McBain, who was appointed chief of Renfrew’s police force in 1986 and later went on to serve as owner/operator of MLES, a bylaw enforcement company that serves a number of area municipalities.
“His leadership, dedication and impact will be felt for many years to come,” reads the statement.
“All of us at the Town of Renfrew are deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Jim,” said Sidney. “He was a respected community leader who devoted his career to the service of our town. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
The statement goes on to say that he will be sorely missed.
McBain was reportedly the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash in North Algona Wilberforce on Sept. 26.
Renfrew’s flags have been lowered to half-mast.
The Town of Arnprior has also paid tribute to McBain, who provided bylaw services there for more than 20 years.
