An 18-year-old from Hastings Highlands has been charged following an early morning assault in the Township of South Algonquin. The incident occurred just before 6:00 a.m. on the 127 Highway, prompting a swift response from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Killaloe Detachment, supported by the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Canine Unit.
The suspect fled into nearby woods but was apprehended shortly after by police. Following an investigation, the individual was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose under the Criminal Code.
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on October 2, 2024. Authorities have withheld the suspect’s name to protect the privacy of the victim and their family.
