Renfrew’s young reading stars were shining bright this summer and an event held this week was an opportunity for them to celebrate a collective job well done.
Tuesday was the TD Summer Reading Club Mission Success! party at the Renfrew Public Library and by all accounts, it was a blast!
Summer reading club co-ordinator Erin Lawson explains that the TD theme as a whole was ‘In the Stars’ and Renfrew chose to adopt a ‘Cosmic Crusaders’ theme.
More than 100 children played along on the giant gameboard, earning prizes and completing secret missions along the way.
There was a good turnout for the various special space-themed activities, including an alien invasion escape room, held throughout the summer.
Tuesday’s party included an ice cream sundae bar, treats and prizes for the kids, and a special guest, explains Lawson.
Participating in initiatives like the summer reading club helps keep the kids learning and engaged during the break from school and helps them prepare for the return to class, said Lawson.
It can also be a great way for them to stay engaged with their peers and for families new to the area to get involved in the community and meet new people.
The summer reading club may be wrapped up, but there are plenty of ongoing and new activities for all ages at the library. Visit the website for information.
