A group of Ontario developers is asking the three levels of government for tax breaks on new housing.
The Coalition Against New-Home Taxes is composed of 18 developers who want to see the federal and provincial governments remove the harmonized sales tax on all new homes.
They’re also asking the province and the City of Toronto to eliminate the land-transfer tax on new construction homes, and for municipalities to reduce development charges to 2009 rates, adjusted for inflation.
The organization says if changes aren’t made to address the housing crisis, the home construction industry and the economy could suffer.
