The Arnprior and District Humane Society holds a special place in Rory Wilson’s heart and that fondness recently translated to a donation of $1,000 and a bunch of supplies for the shelter.
Rory, 10, with the help of several family members including her little brother, as well as her grandparents Judy and Mike Wilson, who own Antiques, Treasures and Treats, recently hosted a bookmark and cookie sale in support of the humane society.
It was the second year Rory held the event, selling her handmade bookmarks and goodies at her grandparents’ Arnprior store, as well as collecting supplies, which included a cat tree donated by a “wonderful” local couple.
Grandmother Judy says the sale was an all-around success.
“One of our cigar customers handed her a $100 bill and picked a bookmark. He said that he lost his dog recently and being part of her fundraising efforts made him feel a bit better,” said Judy. “As he walked away, she looked at me and whispered ‘And he only wanted ONE bookmark!’ I said: ‘Maybe you should offer him a cookie too.’ So she did.”
She raised $777 at the Saturday sale and an anonymous donor boosted the full total to $1,000.
Rory will start Grade 5 at St. John XXIII School this fall and hopes to continue to support the humane society.
