A standout athlete from Renfrew is set to climb the next rung up the professional hockey ladder.
Defenseman Cole Brownlee will head to Sioux Lookout in Northwestern Ontario to play for the reigning Superior International Junior Hockey League champion Bombers this season.
GM and President Joe Cassidy calls the 5’11” Brownlee a “cerebral defenseman who takes care of his own zone,” adding that he solves the Bombers’ immediate and long-term needs the team has identified on the right side of their defensive core.
“Bringing in a young man like Cole will go a long way toward solidifying our back end for our immediate and long-term needs,” Cassidy adds. “We have been watching Cole for a few years and have been so impressed by his development, his skating, defensive awareness, and puck-moving ability.”
Cassidy went on to mention that Brownlee is someone they are “extremely excited” to have in their program as they try to develop into a very solid 2-way defenseman. “Cole also comes from an amazing family, and we absolutely believe he will fit into our culture fantastically.”
Brownlee had 2 goals and 8 assists in 25 games played for the NPU Rebels of the North American Prep Hockey League last season.
