An 82-year-old Horton Township man is dead after a boating incident on the Bonnechere River.
Officers with the Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Horton Township Firefighters and Renfrew County Paramedics were called to the scene along Thompson Road just before 9 p.m. on July 8.
“It was reported that a male in a small boat had gone over the Bonnechere Falls,” reads an OPP press release. “Boats from the Arnprior Fire Department and paramedic services were launched as part of the search.”
The man’s body was located in the water, downstream from the falls. Despite life-saving efforts, the man, who had not been wearing a life jacket, was pronounced dead.
The man’s 59-year-old son also went over the falls in a kayak while searching for his father. Police say he was not seriously hurt but was transported to hospital as a precaution.
