A first for the village of Braeside might result in a sudden increase in locals sporting black and yellow jerseys.
The Boston Bruins took local product Dean Letourneau 25th overall on Friday evening, as friends and family of the 6-foot-6 centerman cheered on at a watch party inside the John A. Gillies Centre.
Boston took a roundabout way to get their guy, originally trading that draft pick to Detroit two years ago before eventually getting it back in a recent trade with the Ottawa Senators.
Letourneau, who grew up in the Ottawa Valley Titans system and had a brief stint with the Renfrew Wolves Under-18 AAA in 2021–22, put up 127 points in 56 games during a breakout season with St. Andrews College last season.
He will have plenty of chances to impress the Bruins’ scouting department when he begins playing at Boston College next season.
