The excitement is building for the NHL Draft Watch Party, slated for the J. Arthur Gillies Recreation Centre in Braeside next Friday (June 28th).
Braeside native Dean Letourneau could be selected as high as the first round after a career that began with him lacing up skates on the outdoor rink next door as a young child.
That’s Scott Brum- also known as the organizer of the JAG Centre’s pre-COVID municipal breakfasts- but Scott’s role in the event is not as a Township Councillor, but rather is hosting it as a family friend who watched Dean on the ice back when he was two feet six inches tall.
Part of the raison d’etre of hosting the Draft Watch Party is so that Dean’s success might serve to inspire those kids who may also be dreaming of an eventual pro career even as they skate on backyard rinks, or play ball hockey in the street.
Brum says admission to the NHL Draft Watch Party at the JAG is by donation.
Scott says if there’s a huge crowd, the Township has an inflatable outdoor TV screen- because the event is an occasion that will make history.
As Brum indicates fans may also be coming from out-of-town for the NHL Draft Watch Party, the “JAG” Centre is located at 138 Sara Street East in the Village of Braeside.
Doors Open at 6PM
