It’s hidden away on the edge of town in the Marshall’s Bay Meadows subdivision is perhaps why you’ve not noticed it, but a lawn sign situated at 83 Douglas Brown Way got a lot of attention from Arnprior Council Monday.
The placard, advertising a home-based business on the property, is a super-sized version that doesn’t comply with the Town’s Sign Bylaw.
It measures 12 square feet and all that’s allowed is a 4.3 square foot sign on your private property anywhere in the community.
Councillor Lynn Cloutier worried that allowing the advertisement to rest in place sets a precedent that could turn Arnprior into a metaphoric “Sign City”.
Chris Couper concurred.
Further, the placard already contravenes a property covenant with the developer of a similar restrictive nature.
A recommendation to allow such a sign was then defeated by vote of Council.
