Saturday’s weather held up just long enough for Pride festivities in downtown Renfrew.
Chris Kyte, co-founder of Renfrew Pride, thanks the community for their continued support of their Pride Picnic, which marks a special connection between them and the town dating back to the Pride Flag first being raised at town hall in 2019.
The third annual edition of the event brought community members together outside Town Hall in celebration and acknowledgement of friends and family in the local 2SLGTBQIA+ community with a free barbeque, live music, and more.
Kyte explains why being able to do that inside Low Square continues to be important and why the day would not have had the same impact at another location.
She was also pleased to collaborate with town staff on their first ever colour run, a fundraiser for both Renfrew Pride and the Renfrew Public Library that took runners from Ma-te-Way Park through Renfrew’s local trail systems to make it just in time for them to join the party.
She’s hopeful that Renfrew Pride and the town can continue to build upon their growing partnership and that we can get to a point where the celebration and protest of Pride are ultamately no longer needed.
Until then, Renfrew Pride will stay busy over the next month, with a few more Pride events happening around the community.
Kyte says to check social media for updates on events as they happen.
