Remember those 500 to 600 industrial jobs proposed for McNab-Braeside?
Friday (May 3rd) saw the idea move from a plan on paper to shovels in the ground.
That’s Tom Peckett, who was Mayor of the Township when the suggestion that four or five firms engaged in agricultural building construction in Germany would build satellite facilities in McNab-Braeside was first broached.
The proposal called for the firms to be located next to Highway 417 at Campbell Drive.
To fast-track the initiative, then Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark issued a pair of Ministerial Zoning Orders (MZOs) that advanced the pace for certain permits to get things underway.
The MZOs came with deadlines for implementation that weren’t met- due to circumstances that were no fault of the proponent (in part due to the war in Ukraine).
That’s MPP John Yakabuski, who says present Minister Paul Calandra is onside with issuing the new MZO edict.
Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon says the site, just off Highway 417 at Campbell Drive is ideally situated.
The Warden says it’s good that the County receive its share of booming provincial development.
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MP Cheryl Gallant says the groundbreaking for Wolf Industries has been worth the wait.
This is the twenty-first International market Wolf Industries has a presence in, and that’s according to Klaus Schlog, the firm’s Vice President of International Divisions.
Schlog is aware of the pressing need for home construction- another division of Wolf Industries that could enjoy growth in our domestic market.
As to those 500 jobs? Wolf Industries will be the “anchor tenant” of the development, and companion and subsidiary firms will follow, according to Tom Peckett.
A smudging ceremony, performed by Elder Francis Sarazin blessed participants going forward.
