When dollars take second place to drama, McNab-Braeside still managed to pass its 2024 Budget at the Township Council Meeting April 30th.
The document, several months in the making, took less than two minutes of members’ time last Tuesday.
Per bylaw, administration proposed Seven Million Four Hundred Twenty Thousand Three Hundred Forty-Seven Dollars ($7,420,347) as the estimate of the property tax levy required during the year 2024 for the Corporation. Deputy Mayor Lori Hoddinott presided over discussion.
The Budget Bylaw was approved by show of hands.
Various tax rates in fourteen categories were established to equal the calculated estimate, and this table represents these:
1. THAT for the year 2024 the rates to be applied on the taxable and payment-in-lieu assessment rateable for municipal purposes shall be as follows:
Residential 0.00697564

Garbage Collection rates are also a component of the McNab-Braeside 2024 budget. These are on a per-location basis, and range from 225 to 1115 dollars, with the vast majority being the lower figure of 225.
Mayor Mark MacKenzie’s suggestion of a 5 percent Budget increase to better address perceived road repair deficiencies was earlier moved and seconded for discussion, but did not pass.
