A Pembroke resident is facing charges for allegedly sharing intimate images of a former romantic partner without consent.
According to the Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police, the investigation began April 24 when an adult victim reported a former romantic partner had shared intimate images without consent.
A 47-year-old has been charged with distributing intimate images without consent contrary to the Criminal Code. Police say the name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in Pembroke court on May 21.
Police are reminding the public that it is a criminal offence to transmit intimate images without consent. Everyone who knowingly publishes, distributes, posts online or shares an intimate image of a person, knowing that the person depicted in the image did not give their permission, is committing an offence. An intimate image is defined as being one in which the subject is nude, partially nude or engaged in explicit sexual activity, regardless of their age.
