On April 13, 2024, a single-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck on Highway 60 in the Township of South Algonquin prompted a swift response from the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The incident, occurring just after 9:00 p.m., led to the apprehension of 38-year-old Mathew Clarke from Angus.
Upon arrival at the scene, authorities initiated an investigation which culminated in Clarke’s arrest and subsequent charges under the Criminal Code. He faces allegations of Impaired Operation and exceeding the legal limit of alcohol consumption while driving, measured at over 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood.
In addition to the aforementioned criminal charges, Clarke was also cited for driving without a valid license, a violation of the Highway Traffic Act. Furthermore, he was found to be in possession of open liquor, contravening the regulations stipulated by the Liquor Licence Act.
As per the official statement released by the OPP, Clarke has been issued a summons to appear in court to address the charges brought against him. The incident underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to uphold road safety standards and prevent instances of impaired driving within Ontario communities.
