On April 10, 2024, shortly after 6:30 p.m., law enforcement officers swiftly responded to a collision involving a passenger car and a bicycle at the intersection of Bonnechere Street and Bruce Street within the Township of Bonnechere Valley.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the 61-year-old driver of the passenger car, hailing from Eganville, was traveling westbound on Bonnechere Street when the collision occurred at the intersection with Bruce Street. The collision involved a collision with a 14-year-old cyclist, also from Eganville, who was traveling on Bruce Street.
As a result of the collision, the 14-year-old cyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital by paramedics for medical attention.
Following a thorough examination of the circumstances, authorities determined that no charges were to be laid against the driver of the passenger car.
This incident serves as a reminder to the community regarding the importance of bicycle safety. Specifically, police highlight the legal requirement for bicycle riders under the age of 18 to wear an approved bicycle helmet. For children aged 16 and under, it is the responsibility of a parent or guardian to ensure compliance with this safety regulation.
