
UPDATE 3:55 p.m.: Renfrew’s Fire Department says teachers were able to contain a fire behind St. Joseph’s Catholic High School on Monday afternoon.
Fire Chief Mike Guest tells myFM that the school called their crew out to 835 First Street at around 1:30 p.m. on April 15th, where a small area of grass between the school and the Millennium Trail had begun burning.
Staff from St. Joseph’s were able to spot the fire and worked quickly to keep it under control using fire extinguishers prior to the Fire Department’s arrival.
Chief Guest says his team stayed at the scene for about an hour, and that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

St. Joseph’s Catholic High School received an unexpected visit from the Renfrew Fire Department on Monday afternoon.
Principal Scott Nichol informed parents and guardians at around 1:30 p.m. that a fire broke out in the field behind their schoolgrounds, near the Millennium Trail.
He did not provide details about the blaze or what caused it, only that fire crews were on the scene as of the time of the message.
