Several Lanark County police officers are being applauded for the recent successful rescue of a young woman from the fast-flowing waters of the Mississippi River in Carleton Place.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the incident happened shortly after 2 p.m. on April 9 when a young person in crisis had jumped into the river near Maple Lane.
The OPP Mobile Crisis Response Team and other officers responded to the scene, along with members of the Carleton Place Fire Department.
According to an OPP press release, three officers waded chest-deep into the strong current to bring the young woman to safety. All were reportedly fine after the incident.
The young woman was transported to hospital by Lanark County paramedics.
“Thank you to these officers who, without hesitation, bravely took action to ensure this person’s safety,” said Inspector Kerlous Tawdrous, Lanark Detachment Commander.
