With the onset of the fire season, Ontario’s Northeast Fire Region has activated its Outdoor Burning Regulations. As the region braces for potential wildfire threats, residents are urged to adhere to safety protocols to protect their homes and properties.
Amy Peltonen Fire Information Officer for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry explains what to do if you come across a wildfire.
Peltonen emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures to safeguard against fires. In an interview with myFM, she provided valuable tips to help residents mitigate fire risks.
She urges residents to prioritize fire safety and take proactive measures to prevent wildfires. “Simple actions such as refraining from outdoor burning during prohibited times and properly disposing of flammable materials can significantly reduce the likelihood of fire incidents,” she advised.
The best time to have a controlled burn would be in the coolest parts of the day, which would be two hours after sunrise or two hours before sunset. Peltonen explained the critical importance of compliance with the Outdoor Burning Regulations. Failure to follow these regulations could have severe consequences.
Residents are encouraged to utilize available resources to stay informed about wildfire prevention techniques and the current fire situation. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s social media pages at ONforestfires provide valuable tips and updates.
