The only thing that may have softened Sunday night’s 8-1 loss is that the Renfrew Wolves were spared a full 60 minutes.
A fan pounding on the Rockland Arena glass broke through it, tumbling into the Wolves’ bench and causing an early end to Game 5 against the Nationals with just over 3 minutes left to play.
That extra time likely would not have made a difference, as the Nationals jumped in front just 25 seconds into the game and never looked back against a Renfrew side that played without two important defensive pieces in Issac Enright and Henry Wilson before losing Mathieu Paquin to injury part way through the evening.
Noah Vom Scheidt provided a small comfort for Wolves fans, breaking up the shutout with his third goal of the postseason moments before the game’s premature end.
Wolves Coach Ryan Leonard would note following the game that his side is not ready to quit, adding that they will give it their all with a hopefully complete line-up this Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. when the two sides return to myFM Centre for Game 6.
