Interested community members with security cameras on their property are invited to help keep our community safe.
The Renfrew OPP is implementing the CAMSafe program, a database of local residential and commercial security cameras that they can use as resources when investigating local offences and crimes.
It’s a program that has also been used by the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP in Pembroke and Petawawa since 2022.
Officers will not have access to security cameras or cloud-based accounts, but community members can register their cameras on a map of the local area by providing basic contact information and camera location, as well as more specific details like the direction the camera faces, video retention details, or screenshots of the camera view, if desired.
Local police can then find cameras near incidents that they are investigating and work with the property owners to view the footage, which may provide vital clues in ongoing cases.
Registrants can only view their own information and can delete their account or change their information at any time.
