As May approaches, communities are gearing up for Sexual Assault Survivor Month, with municipalities planning to display banners alongside storefront signs to raise awareness and demonstrate support for survivors.
This year marks the 6th annual We Stand with Survivors Campaign, with an increasing number of municipalities participating to spread awareness throughout May.
Kim Charlebois the Project Coordinator for the Womens Sexual Assault Centre in Renfrew County shares with myFM how this campaign is reaching all parts of Canada.
Eganville led the way, followed by Pembroke, Arnprior, Chalk River, and Petawawa. With places outside of Ontario as well like Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland & Labrador joining in on this campaign. Charlebois emphasizes that having these banners displayed across various areas sends a powerful message to survivors, letting them know they are not alone.
Charlebois explains that these campaigns aim to initiate conversations and raise awareness about sexual assault.
