A string of texts extorting people from their money has the attention of our local court system.
Both the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Province of Ontario are raising alarm over scammers sending intimidating texts claiming to be a final notice about unpaid fines.
The County of Renfrew handles the Provincial Offences Court locally, and they remind you that they will never contact a defendant by text like this to resolve matters.
