The St. Joseph’s Catholic High School Jaguars made it interesting but would fall just short in the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association’s Varsity Boys A/AA Hockey Championship finals.
The Jaguars played host to the Thousand Islands Secondary School at the myFM Centre on Tuesday, March 5th, and would find themselves down 2-0 against the Pirates midway through the second period.
However, St. Joe’s would push back, bringing the game level with 6.4 seconds left in the third to force overtime. It would be as close as they got to taking home EOSSAA gold on home ice, as TISS would respond with a heartbreaking overtime winner with just 5.7 seconds left in the extra frame.
Despite the result, both teams will be representing Eastern Ontario when the top schools from across the province meet for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association Tournament, March 19th through to the 21st in Brooklin, Ontario.
