The basketball program at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School has reached new heights, and there’s still a chance to climb further.
Gerry Benoit, Head Coach for the Junior Boys Jaguars, says preparation and camaraderie were key factors that led them to capture the Upper Ottawa Valley High School Athletic Association Championship this past week.
myFM asked Benoit about what else has set his team apart from the rest of the Ottawa Valley this season.
Despite the first-ever local title, Benoit explains that the big win puts them in a familiar position when they head to the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association Championships in Russell on February 28th.
Benoit says he and his coaching staff are proud of this year’s team for responding to a tough loss early in the season to go 7-and-1 heading into last week’s tournament, where they beat rivals RCI 66-29 in the semi-finals and Valour 74-30 in the championship game.
