An Arnprior man wanted by police following a gas theft in Petawawa was arrested this week. Upper Ottawa Valley OPP attempted to make a traffic stop on Monday but the vehicle sped off. Police did not pursue for safety reasons. Later that night the same vehicle was found by police on Barron Canyon Road. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle with a spike strip. The vehicle became disabled and was abandoned near Highway 17 and Round Lake Road. With help from the canine unit, the wanted man was found in a wooded area near the highway.
21-year-old Nick Colbear now faces the following charges:
Dangerous operation
· Flight from police
· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
· Theft under $5000
· Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
· Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
· Drive motor vehicle – no licence
· Drive motor vehicle – no plates
· Colour coating obscuring interior
· Operate unsafe vehicle
