Its the ‘blue’ time of the year, when mental health gets strained for both young and old as we look at a long road of winter still ahead of us.
Early Childhood Educator Jane Paul says like adults, each child reacts to mental stressors differently. But you can help by being positive.
She says we also have to make sure that we listen to and respect our kids’ feelings. They can’t get outside as often and not everyone likes the winter. Understanding that can go a long way to helping them feel better.
Paul says some express their big feelings in big ways.
Engaging them in fun activities is a challenge when the weather doesn’t cooperate, so finding indoor activities they enjoy to keep them busy can go a long way to keeping them happy.
You can watch a movie with them, colour, or play with toys. Simple but helpful.
