A key contributor to the Junior A Renfrew Wolves sudden rise in the standings has earned some league-wide attention.
Viacheslav Gordiechuk has been named the Central Canada Hockey League’s Goaltender of the Month for December.
The 20-year-old from Saint Petersburg, Russia, put together a 2.85 goals against average and a .913 save percentage over seven games last month.
He currently ranks in the league’s top ten in both of those stats over the first half of the season and is the current wins leader among CCHL goaltenders, with 14 in his 27 games for the Wolves.
Speaking previously with myFM, Head Coach Ryan Leonard praised Slava for overcoming early-season struggles to excel ahead of the holiday break.
Renfrew’s Ethan Smith also received recognition for his play last month, earning an honourable mention in the Rookie of the Month category.
