A global hospitality firm believes Renfrew is a prime location for a new hotel.
Consultants from HVS have prepared a report for Town Council that has highlighted an increased demand for accommodation options in the area.
The report, which was brought to council’s attention earlier this month, expects an influx of visitors to Renfrew and the surrounding area in the coming years due to the Highway 417 expansion and new recreational facilities.
It also picks out an ideal piece of property near Haramis Park along O’Brien Road that would be a good fit for a midscale to upper-midscale, 65-room hotel with amenities like an indoor pool and business centre due to the land’s proximity to shopping, the highway, and the Industrial Park.
Chair of Renfrew’s Community Services and Economic Development Committee, Councilor Andrew Dick, says a new hotel would “bring economic benefits to our community by creating jobs and seeing more money spent locally.”
Meanwhile, Manager of Economic Development and Customer Services, Victoria Charbonneau, says the town is excited to work with potential developers and hopes to enter into serious discussions in 2024.
HVS is expected to return to Council with a final report on the matter in the new year.
