It’s a new deal, but not much will change at your curb come next year.
Renfrew’s Manager of Environmental Services, Amanda Springer, recommended a joint tender to Council on Tuesday that would see Topps Environmental Solutions handle waste management for all of Renfrew, Arnprior, and McNab-Braeside.
Elected officials in the other two municipalities have already discussed the joint deal and had been left waiting on last night’s decision from Renfrew Town Council.
Manager of Environmental Services Amanda Springer says the TES bid was not the lowest of the three they received but was the one that met a specific requirement.
Springer notes that lining up local service with the other two municipalities is the most cost-efficient for everyone involved.
She adds that the five-year deal should have a seamless transition for local garbage collection when it starts in April 2024, mostly due to the seven years of familiarity TES already has with the Town of Renfrew.
The cost of the waste management contract will start at $345,089 in year one and be adjusted annually, but it does come with yearly $20,000 discount if all three municipalities reach a certain volume of trash collected.
