Chair Peter Emon (front row, third from left) and fellow EOWC members join Members of Parliament and Senators for discussions on the 7-in-7 Regional Housing Plan in October
A call to action on affordable housing is pointing to a solution developed with help from Renfrew County.
The 7-in-7 Regional Housing plan, developed by the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus to build 21,000 homes and another 7,000 affordable rental units, is the focus of an affordable housing report from the United Way of Eastern Ontario where they call for “swift and decisive measures” from all levels of government and community members to combat the growing housing crisis.
They use the plan as example of collaborative solution to address the urgent need for homes in small and rural communities, saying that the housing crisis “has led many low-to-moderate-income households to become more vulnerable to poor mental and physical health outcomes.”
The 7-in-7 plan has been highly promoted by EOWC Chair and Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon, who led recent discussions on it with members of federal government on Parliament Hill.
