A pair of losses over the weekend, including one to a divisional rival, must sting for a Renfrew Wolves side looking to find consistency after a slow start to the season.
The Wolves were unable to put anything together when they played host to Smiths Falls on Saturday, November 18th, losing 4-0 to the Robinson Division-leading Bears.
Wolves goaltender Nolan Lane would put up a valiant effort, holding on after a 17-shot barrage in the first period to make 33 saves on 37 attempts and earn third star of the game honours.
Renfrew had a bit more success the next night in Navan, but their comeback effort would fall short in a 4-3 loss to the Grads on Sunday.
The Grads’ special teams would run the show early in the game, with Navan scoring twice shorthanded and once more on the powerplay to go up 3-0 by the end of the first.
Renfrew’s Jace Letourneau, Andrew Morton, and Dane Carter would score in an attempt to push back, but an extra tally from Navan’s Devon Savignac kept the game out of reach.
The two losses extend the gap in the early race for the Robinson Division, with 5th place Renfrew now 4 points back of 2nd place Kemptville and 12 points back of 1st place Smiths Falls.
The Wolves will have a chance to claw their way back into the pack with a home-and-home series against the Rockland Nationals. Game one is in Rockland this Friday, November 24th, at 7:30 p.m. Hear the action live on 96.1 myFM.
