Seeds of Success wraps up its five-week run in Bristol, Quebec, where a small farm has a big mission: your health.
Ferme Pure Conscience opened its doors to the Pontiac and Ottawa Valley five years ago after co-owner Gema Villavicencio left the world of finance to try her hand at organic farming.
She and her family have since developed the farm into a spot where the community can enjoy over 20 different types of hand-picked seasonal produce, as well as chicken and eggs, yak meat, natural body care products, and honey.
Everything produced on site is 100% natural, and Villavicencio tells myFM that their certified organic fruits and vegetables are raised without any pesticides or other chemicals that might be harmful to you or the environment. They also focus on bio-intensive farming, using techniques like crop rotation to get the most out of their three acres of farmable land.
That does mean going the extra mile to keep things like pests at bay, but she adds that the niche market that going organic has opened to them is worth the trouble.
Going from the financial sector to agriculture from scratch has made for a lot of learning on the fly, but Villavicencio says that, if she can do it, any other aspiring farmer can.
