There is interest, but will the Town of Renfrew find takers for a pair of town-owned vacant properties?
Town Council met on Tuesday, September 26th, to approve putting surplus land on Seventh Street and at 210 Ready Avenue up for sale, with potential buyers already showing interest in building various different housing options on the properties.
Mayor Tom Sidney would stress one thing to people concerned about the Ready Avenue property in particular: they’re not selling the nearby park.
While council was mostly happy to take the first step in finding takers for the land, Clint McWhirter would ask what could be done to prevent a buyer from stalling on developing it.
It’s an issue that he’s all too familiar with, thanks to his previous stint as a councilor.
Chief Administrative Officer Rob Tremblay says the town has measures in place to make sure the land isn’t left empty due to a buyer deciding to hold back on building.
On top of those development guidelines, an option for the town to buy back the property at $1 should things grind to a halt would be baked into any deal they agree to during the process.
